Do CFL Light Bulbs Cause Headaches?

20/01/11 0 COMMENTS

Over the years we have often heard customers complain that fluorescent light bulbs cause them to suffer from headaches. But was it really the bulbs?  Or, was it simply the slight flickering of older ballasts going bad causing brief subtleties in the eye that was causing headaches, or could it be more than that? The magnetic ballast for T12 uses coiled wire and creates magnetic fields to transform voltage, and in the United States operates at 60 Hz. This means that for intensive purposes, the light bulbs are actually being turned on an off 60 times per second.  Surely some eyes would be bothered if the flickering became more noticeable. So when our customers changed from magnetic ballasts to the new electronic ballasts that operates at over 20,000hz, many of these complaints of headaches went away.

Scientists Claim CFL’s Pose A Health Risk

Lately, with the banning of incandescent light bulbs, the compact fluorescent lamps (CFL’s) have grown exponentially as the common place light bulb of today. Operating with self contained electronic ballasts, we would initially believe that surely no one would suffer headaches from these energy saving light bulbs.  However, scientists have recently started talking publicly about CFL’s and Dirty Energy and claims that CFL’s actually pose a health risk. We must wonder if health could really be affected by CFL’s and what about the lamps would cause this issue?

What is Dirty Energy?

Dirty Energy is defined as any negative result from an energy product. This could be harmful gases created from coal burning, to ultra violet emissions to electromagnetic energy.  CFL BULBS CAUSE DIRTY ENERGY

Basically if the energy produced or any portion of the process to make the energy can be harmful to anyone or the environment than it would be considered dirty energy. So then we must ask, do CFL’s cause dirty energy? 16:9 a Canadian reporting television show leads us to believe that they do in a 2009 story that never aired in the U.S. Their research yields an interest to the ideal that CFL’s produce electromagnetic emissions that cause serious health risks and headaches. We know T12 linear fluorescent ballasts use and electromagnetic field to generate light from a fluorescent bulb, so could that have been what was causing customers headaches at work? Is the energy saving created by CFL’s worth health problems?

You be the judge!

Compact Fluorescent’s Look As Great As Incandescent

29/09/10 0 COMMENTS

COMPACT FLUORESCENT LAMPS SAVE ENERGY

With the passing of the amended Energy Independence and securities Act (D.O.E. 2012 law), the phasing out of incandescent and halogen lamps is in full swing. One of the latest businesses to make this change is Yoder’s Amish Gift Shop in Sarasota, Florida. When we first approached the Owner Anna, about making this change, she was reluctant to accept the change because of a fear that switching from incandescent or halogen wouldn’t look as good as using a compact fluorescent product in this charming gift store. However the new law and the energy savings were quite enticing for Anna, and with the Federal Government chipping in on the replacement cost. Switching was a no brainer, if it would look as good!

Synergy Lighting Offers Top Brands

Synergy Lighting recommended a specific brand of Compact Fluorescent Lamps manufactured by TCP and Halco, which are both major manufacturers of compact fluorescent light bulbs in the U.S. who lamps meet the Energy Star standards for Quality, Life, Color, and Safety. These low energy, environmentally friendly products were changed out by staff when the Owner Anna was out on business, and was as easy as unscrewing the old bulbs and screwing in the new ones.

Of particular interest is the phone call Synergy Lighting received after the light bulbs had been changed. It started with Anna asking when the light bulbs would be delivered. Just as we predicted, the change was so perfect, that even Anna didn’t realize that she was using fluorescent energy savers until we told her it had already been done!

Synergy Lighting has a special program for businesses within Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, Lee & Collier Counties. This program will entitle your business to receive Energy Saving CFL Bulbs absolutely free of charge. The only catch is that you have to replace all the bulbs that use these lamps.  Example: If you have 36 recessed can lights, you can not do 20, you have to do all 36 and they have to be used indoors.

Switch and Save

By switching to CFL (Compact Fluorescent Bulbs) businesses can save huge on their electric bill and replacement bulb costs. Typically these lamps replace a 60, 75 or 100 Watt Incandescent lamp while reducing energy consumption down to only 18 watts. The CFL bulbs available to qualified business on this special program must use either the 18 or 23 watt CFL with locking base.

What Is A Locking Base?

GU24 LOCKING BASEThe locking base is a very simple device that ensures the business owner and the Department of Energy that once you begin using the CFL bulb, that an employee will not accidentally insert the wrong bulb into the socket thus defeating the concept of energy savings. Additionally this lowers your replacement cost of replacement light bulbs in the future. For installation just simply screw the base into the lamp socket and it stays there. The posts on the base of the bulb simply plug and turn into the base and lock tight until time for replacement.

How Much Will I Save?

Well, alone on the price of the initial light bulbs, you are saving big because they are FREE of charge. The socket adapters are required and cost $ .89 cents each. Energy savings for a business operating 12 hours per day is $34.95 per bulb per year.

Guarantee

Every light bulb is warrantied for 2 years from the date of purchase against any premature failure! You will save huge on your electric bill! All Standard CFL Lamps are Energy Star Approved and UL Listed. Additional colors are available.
